Car Computer Diagnostics in Lahore

A scan gives fault codes, but a code is a starting point, not a diagnosis. We use the scan together with hands-on testing to find the real cause.

When to get a diagnostic scan

  • Check engine light is on
  • Rough idle, hesitation or loss of power
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Car in limp mode
  • Gearbox or ABS warning lights
  • Before buying a used car

Why codes are not enough

One code can have several causes. A misfire code, for example, can come from a spark plug, a coil, a fuel issue or an air leak. We test before we recommend parts.

What a diagnostic scan actually does

Most cars built from the late 1990s onward have a diagnostic port. A scan tool reads fault codes stored by the engine control unit, and can show live data such as sensor readings. The codes tell us which system has noticed a problem, not always which part has failed.

Examples of what codes can mean

  • P0300: a random or multiple cylinder misfire was detected
  • P0171: the fuel mixture is too lean on one bank
  • P0420: the catalytic converter efficiency is below its threshold

Each of these can have several causes. A misfire, for example, can come from spark plugs, coils, fuel delivery, or an air leak, so we test before recommending parts.

What a scan cannot do

A scan does not find mechanical faults that the car has no sensor for, such as worn suspension parts, and it does not tell you the age or condition of every part. That is why we combine scanning with a physical inspection and testing.

After the repair

Once the repair is done, we clear the codes and check that they do not return. A code that comes back means the real cause has not been fixed.

Before buying a used car

A scan can reveal stored faults and help you decide whether a used car needs more checking. It is one part of a proper inspection, not the whole of it.

From scan to repair: the steps we follow

  • Talk through the symptoms and when they occur
  • Scan for stored and pending codes, and note freeze-frame data
  • Check live data to see what the sensors are reading
  • Inspect and test the likely causes physically
  • Explain the finding and give a written estimate
  • Repair, clear codes and road-test to confirm it is fixed

What live data shows

Live data lets us watch the engine as it runs. Coolant temperature shows whether the thermostat is working. Fuel trims show whether the engine is adding or removing fuel to compensate for something. Oxygen sensor readings show how the combustion is behaving. Comparing these values to what is normal for your car is how a vague complaint such as rough running turns into a specific cause.

Stored, pending and freeze-frame data

A stored code means the fault has been confirmed. A pending code means the system has seen a problem but has not yet confirmed it. Freeze-frame data records the conditions at the moment the fault occurred, such as engine speed and temperature, which helps recreate the problem. Each is a clue, not an answer.

Different systems, different scans

A basic code reader may read only engine codes. Cars also have separate control units for ABS, airbags, transmission and body electronics, and these need to be scanned too. If the airbag or ABS light is on, tell us, because those systems need a scan that reaches them.

Newer and hybrid cars

Modern cars depend on software and sensors more than older ones. Some faults appear only when the car is warm, under load or in particular driving conditions. If your car has a hybrid system, tell us when you book so we can confirm what we can check.

Frequently asked questions

Can you scan every car?

We use professional diagnostic and scanning tools. Most cars made since the late 1990s have a standard diagnostic port, but some systems need specific tools. Tell us your make and model.

If the light is on, can I keep driving?

If it is steady, drive gently and get it checked soon. If it flashes, reduce speed and avoid hard driving, then have it checked quickly.

Does a scan fix the problem?

No. It helps find the problem. The repair is a separate step.

Will clearing the check engine light solve it?

No. If the fault remains, the light returns.

How long does a scan take?

The scan itself is quick. Finding the cause can take longer.

What is a freeze frame?

A snapshot of engine conditions at the moment a fault was recorded.

Why does the same light come back?

The cause may not have been fixed, or the repair was incomplete.
