Car AC Repair in Lahore
Car AC repair at Safdar Auto Workshop starts with finding why the cooling has dropped, not just topping up gas. With Lahore summer highs that routinely pass 40°C, a weak AC is more than a comfort problem.
By the Safdar Auto Workshop team · Walton Road, LahoreSigns your car AC needs attention
- Air is not cold, or only cold while the car is moving
- Weak airflow from the vents
- AC cools, then stops cooling
- Unusual noise or smell when the AC is on
- Water leaking into the cabin

Common causes of poor cooling
- Low refrigerant caused by a leak
- A compressor or compressor clutch fault
- A blocked condenser or a cooling fan that is not running
- A clogged cabin filter reducing airflow
- A failing blower motor or resistor
- Electrical faults such as a fuse, relay or pressure switch
Why topping up gas is not a fix
An AC system is sealed. If it keeps needing gas, it has a leak. Topping up without finding the leak gives temporary cooling and the problem returns.
What we check
- Refrigerant level and leaks
- Compressor operation and clutch engagement
- Condenser and cooling fan
- Cabin filter and blower speeds
- Vent temperature after the repair
Newer cars may use a different refrigerant from older ones, so the correct type matters. We tell you what your car uses before work starts.
How a car air conditioning system works
Your car AC does not make cold air. It moves heat out of the cabin. The compressor pressurises refrigerant and pushes it to the condenser at the front of the car, where the heat is released. The refrigerant then passes through an expansion device and into the evaporator behind the dashboard, where it absorbs heat from the cabin air that the blower pushes across it. A fault anywhere in that loop weakens the cooling.
Why AC problems show up in Lahore summers
- Heat load: when outside temperatures pass 40°C, the system has to work much harder to cool the cabin.
- Heavy traffic: slow-moving cars get less air over the condenser, so the cooling fan has to do the work.
- Dust: dirt builds up on the condenser fins and in the cabin filter, cutting airflow.
- Long idling: a car left running in traffic may cool noticeably worse than one moving at speed.
What a proper AC diagnosis involves
- Visual check of the belt, compressor, condenser and hoses
- Checking that the compressor clutch engages when the AC is switched on
- Pressure readings, taken with gauges, to see how the system is behaving
- Leak detection, for example with UV dye or an electronic detector
- Vent temperature measured before and after the repair
- Checking the condenser fan, cabin filter, blower motor and drain
A diagnosis should end with a clear explanation of what is wrong, which parts are involved and what each repair would cost.
What affects the cost of an AC repair
Costs vary mainly with which part has failed, how hard it is to reach, the type of refrigerant your car uses and the age of the car. A small leak at an accessible joint is a very different job from replacing an evaporator behind the dashboard. We give a written estimate in PKR after diagnosis, so you can decide before any work starts.
Keeping your car AC working longer
- Run the AC for a few minutes regularly, even outside summer, so seals stay lubricated.
- Replace the cabin filter at the interval in your owner manual, or sooner in dusty conditions.
- Park in shade when you can, and open the windows briefly before switching the AC on.
- Do not ignore slowly weakening cooling. Early repairs are usually smaller.
- Be cautious with off-the-shelf sealant products. Some mechanics advise against them because they can contaminate the system.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my car AC only get cold when driving?
This can point to a cooling fan not running, a dirty condenser or low refrigerant. A proper check is needed to be sure.
How often should car AC gas be refilled?
A sealed system should not need regular refills. If it does, there is a leak that should be found.
How much does car AC repair cost in Lahore?
It depends on the fault. There is no inspection fee, and we give a written estimate after diagnosis. Call 0300 9406506 for a quote.
Can I keep driving with a faulty AC compressor?
If the compressor is noisy or seizing, it can damage the drive belt, so have it checked soon. If the AC simply does not cool, driving is usually safe, but get it diagnosed before the problem grows.
Why does my car AC smell?
A musty smell often comes from moisture and growth on the evaporator or a dirty cabin filter. A clean filter and an AC service can help.
How long does a car AC repair take?
It depends on the fault. A diagnosis can be quick, while parts behind the dashboard take longer. We tell you the time with the estimate.
