How to choose the right grade
- Open your owner manual and find the recommended viscosity grade and specification
- Match the grade exactly. An oil that is too thin or too thick can reduce protection
- Consider how you drive: stop-start traffic, heat and dust count as harder use
- If you are unsure, tell us your make, model and year and we will confirm what to use
The label on a can such as 5W-30 has two numbers. The first, with the W for winter, describes how the oil flows when cold. The second describes how thick it stays at normal operating temperature. Read more in our car service and oil change page.
